Apison's Story
How Apison Got Its Name
In 1881, a railroad track was built through a small settlement. Before this, mail was delivered by horse and buggy. The railroad officials first named this settlement "O'Brian." However, there was already another town in Tennessee with the same name. To avoid confusion, the name was changed.
The new name, Apison, came from the large amounts of "Apison shale rock" found along the railroad tracks. This type of rock was common in the area.
