Arabella, California facts for kids

Arabella was once a small community or "settlement" located in Lake County, California. A settlement is like a small town or village that existed in the past but is no longer there as a recognized place. Arabella was situated in an area called Long Valley, about 20 miles (32 km) north of a town called Lower Lake.

Arabella was a small, historic spot in California. It's known today as a "former settlement" because people no longer live there as a distinct community. It was a place where a few people lived and worked many years ago.

The Post Office at Arabella

One important feature of Arabella was its post office. A post office is a place where people send and receive mail. The post office in Arabella was open for many years, from 1888 until 1920. It even moved to a new spot within Arabella in 1903. The name "Arabella" was chosen to honor the wife of the very first postmaster, who was in charge of the post office.

Natural Springs in the Area

Arabella was also home to the Quigley Soda Springs. These are natural springs where water comes out of the ground. "Soda springs" means the water often has natural fizz, like soda pop! People might have visited these springs for their unique water.
