Arc welding facts for kids
Arc welding is a super strong way to join two pieces of metal together forever. Imagine melting two separate metal parts until they become one solid piece! That's what arc welding does.
This cool process uses electricity to create a powerful spark, called an electrical arc. Think of it like a tiny lightning bolt that jumps between the metals. This spark gets incredibly hot. It melts the edges of the metals you want to join, plus a special filler material.
Once everything melts, it mixes together. As it cools down, it hardens into a single, very strong connection. Arc welding was used a lot to build ships during World War II. Today, it's a common way to build big steel structures like bridges and buildings.
