First Settlers Arrive
The very first people to settle in this area were James H. Murray and William Lobdell. They arrived in 1836. Imagine what it was like back then, with no roads or buildings!
How Argentine Got Its Name
When the community first started, it had a different name. A post office opened on November 1, 1837, and it was called "Booton." James H. Murray was the first postmaster, helping people send and receive mail.
Later, on March 30, 1942, the post office's name was changed to "Argentine." This happened because there was another post office with a similar name, which could cause confusion. In 1844, a doctor named Isaac Wixom officially mapped out the community.
