Everest and Lhotse Records
In 2010, Arjun climbed Mount Everest. He was only 16 years, 11 months, and 18 days old. This made him the youngest Indian to ever climb Everest at that time. He broke the record set by Krushnaa Patil.
The next year, on May 20, 2011, Arjun made another record. He became the youngest person to climb Lhotse. He was 17 years, 11 months, and 16 days old. Lhotse is the fourth highest mountain in the world.
More Challenging Climbs
Arjun also climbed Manaslu on October 4, 2011. Manaslu is another very tall mountain. He tried to climb Makalu three times before succeeding. On his fourth try, on May 22, 2016, he finally reached the top!
In 2015, Arjun Vajpai and another climber, Bhupesh Kumar, climbed an unnamed peak. It was 6,180 meters (about 20,276 feet) high. They named it Mount Kalam. They did this to honor the late President of India, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
Arjun Vajpai also climbed Cho Oyu. He was joined by Pasang Norbu Sherpa and Lakpa Sherpa.
Facing Dangers on the Mountains
Climbing very high mountains can be very dangerous. In 2012, Arjun faced a big challenge on Cho Oyu in Tibet. This mountain is known as one of the "easier" 8,000-meter peaks. However, Arjun became paralyzed for two days at a very high altitude. He was at about 22,000 feet (6,706 meters). A Swiss adventurer named Olivier Racine helped him. He gave Arjun the right medicine, which saved him.
More recently, in April 2023, Arjun was rescued from Annapurna. This happened while he was coming down from the summit.
