The armoured frog, also called the armoured mist frog or Alexandra Creek tree frog (Ranoidea lorica), is a special type of frog found in Australia. It makes its home in the state of Queensland.

What Does the Armoured Frog Look Like?

These frogs are quite small. Adult male frogs are usually about 2.7 to 3.3 centimeters long. Female frogs are a bit bigger, growing to about 3.3 to 3.7 centimeters long.

Colors and Features

The armoured frog is typically gray or brown, which helps it blend in with its surroundings. It has a white belly. Its eyes can be a shiny silver or gold color. This frog has a round head and a short nose. It also has special teeth called vomerine teeth on its upper jaw.

Feet and Toes

The armoured frog has webbed feet, which help it swim. The webbing is more noticeable on its back feet than on its front feet. It also has small, sticky pads called discs on its front toes. These discs help the frog climb and hold onto surfaces.

Special Spikes on Males

When it's time for male frogs to find a mate, they grow unique spikes on their skin. These spikes help them hold onto the female during mating. This is a natural part of their life cycle.

Where Does the Armoured Frog Live?

The armoured frog lives in Queensland, Australia. It prefers areas near water, like streams and misty places. This frog is related to another frog called the waterfall frog.
