Arnette Lamar Hallman (born October 19, 1958) is a former American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Joliet JC Wolves and Purdue Boilermakers. The Boston Celtics picked him in the 1980 NBA draft. Hallman spent most of his professional career playing basketball in Europe.
College Basketball Journey
Arnette Hallman started his college basketball journey at Joliet Junior College. After that, he moved to Purdue University. He was a starting player for the Purdue Boilermakers for two seasons.
While at Purdue, Hallman was known for his amazing jumping and rebounding skills. He played in 67 games for Purdue, starting 65 of them. He averaged 8.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. A big moment for him was scoring the winning shot against Magic Johnson's Michigan State Spartans in January 1979. In 1980, Hallman and his team made it to the Final Four of the NCAA Division I basketball tournament.
Professional Career
The Boston Celtics chose Arnette Hallman in the second round of the 1980 NBA draft. He went to their training camp but was not on the team when the season started. The Celtics then sent him to their team in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), called the Maine Lumberjacks. During the 1980–81 season, he got a foot injury and a back injury. These injuries kept him from playing for the rest of the season. In January 1981, he went back to Purdue to help coach while he got better.
In the 1983–84 season, Hallman played for the BC Giants Osnabrück in Germany. This team was part of the German Basketball Bundesliga, which is a top basketball league. He also played in the FIBA Korać Cup, an international competition. After Germany, he spent five seasons playing for four different teams in Portugal.
Personal Life
After he stopped playing basketball, Arnette Hallman continued to live in Germany. He works as an investment banker and also helps customers at Frankfurt Airport. Hallman is very good with languages and can speak six different ones.
Arnette Hallman has three sons. His oldest son, also named Arnette Hallman, is a professional basketball player. He has played in Portugal, Spain, and France.
