Arney is a small, quiet community located in Owen County, in the state of Indiana, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town.
Arney is found in the eastern part of Jefferson Township. It sits near where County Road 880 West (also called Stubenville Road) meets County Road 500 South (also known as Arney Road). This community is about ten miles southwest of Spencer, which is the main town and county seat for Owen County. Arney is located at an elevation of 705 feet (215 meters). A Look Back in Time
Arney started in 1852. It was a new settlement in the area. A few years later, in 1856, a post office was opened in Arney. This was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1912.
