Arnga facts for kids
The Arnga are an Aboriginal Australian people. They come from the northern Kimberley region in Western Australia.
Who are the Arnga people?
The Arnga people, like the Yeidji/Gwini and Miwa, did not have a special name for themselves as a group. Because of this, they were often called the Forrest River people. The name 'Arnga' actually means 'person whose language is hard to understand'.
Where is Arnga Country?
According to Norman Tindale, a famous researcher, the Arnga people's traditional land covered about 2,700 square miles (7,000 square kilometers). This land was south of the Forrest River. It included areas along the King River and Pentecost River. Their country stretched west from the Wyndham Gulf to the Durack River. They did not go very far inland, mostly staying near the river gorges.
