The Field's History
Building a Community Field
This baseball field is located right in downtown Falmouth. It was built a long time ago, between 1938 and 1939. The Work Projects Administration (WPA) helped with its construction. The WPA was a government program that created jobs during a tough economic time.
Honoring Local Heroes
In 1952, the field was named after Elmer E. "Guv" Fuller. He was a beloved coach and athletic director at Falmouth's Lawrence High School for many years. His nickname "Guv" came from a famous Massachusetts Governor from the 1920s. Fuller was a big part of Falmouth's sports programs until he retired in 1952.
Home of the Commodores
The Falmouth Commodores baseball team has played at this field since 1964. Before that, they played at Central Park in Falmouth Heights. In 2004, the baseball diamond itself was named Arnie Allen Diamond. This was to remember Arnie Allen, a dedicated volunteer for the Commodores.
Arnie Allen's Legacy
Arnie Allen started with the Commodores as a seven-year-old bat boy. He stayed with the team for an amazing 46 seasons! He mostly worked as the team's equipment manager. In 2002, he received the league's first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award.
Keeping the Field Great
Over the years, the field has received important updates. In 2006, it got a grant from the Yawkey Foundation for improvements. More major upgrades started in 2018 to keep the park in top shape for players and fans.
Exciting Games and Champions
Arnie Allen Diamond has hosted the CCBL all-star game many times. The first all-star game there was in 1966, and the most recent was in 2003. The Falmouth Commodores have won six CCBL championships on this field. They even won four titles in a row from 1968 to 1971!
Future Stars Played Here
This ballpark has been a summer home for many players who later became famous in Major League Baseball. Some of these stars include Tino Martinez, Darin Erstad, and Jacoby Ellsbury. It's a great place to see future baseball legends!
