His Early Life and Education
Arnold went to school under a famous teacher named Alexander Nowell, who was a dean at St. Paul's. He started studying at Magdalen Hall, Oxford in 1575 when he was about 17 years old. After Oxford, he continued his education at Thavies Inn and then at Lincoln's Inn in 1580. These were places where people learned to become lawyers.
Becoming a Lawyer and Politician
Arnold Oldsworth became a successful lawyer. He held important jobs like the keeper of the Hanaper in Chancery and the Receiver of Fines in the King's Bench. These roles involved managing legal documents and money for the government.
In 1593, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called Tregoney. This meant he helped make laws and decisions for the country. Later, in 1604, he was elected as an MP again, this time for Cirencester.
His Family and Interests
Arnold Oldsworth lived in Bradley, Gloucestershire, and also had a home in London. He married Lucy Barty, whose father was from Antwerp. His son, Michael, also became a Member of Parliament, following in his father's footsteps. Arnold was also interested in history and old things, which means he was an antiquarian.
