Arthur "Art" Junior Gardner was born on September 21, 1952. He is a former professional baseball player. Art played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was part of two teams: the Houston Astros and the San Francisco Giants. His career in the big leagues lasted for parts of three seasons, from 1975 to 1978. In 1977, Art Gardner was the starting center fielder for the Houston Astros on their opening day.
Starting His Baseball Journey
Art Gardner began his path to professional baseball in his home state of Mississippi. He went to South Leake High School in Walnut Grove, Mississippi. After high school, he was chosen in the 1971 amateur baseball draft. The Houston Astros picked him in the second round. He was the 36th player chosen overall that year. This was a big step towards his dream of playing in Major League Baseball.
Playing in the Major Leagues
Art Gardner made his debut in Major League Baseball with the Houston Astros. He played for them in 1975 and again in 1977. Later, he joined the San Francisco Giants in 1978.
