Art Strahan (born July 17, 1943) is a former American football player. He was known for playing as a defensive end and defensive tackle. He played for several teams, including the Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons.
Growing Up
Arthur Ray Strahan was born on July 17, 1943, in Newton, Texas. He grew up in Houston, Texas.
Art went to Booker T. Washington High School in Newton. He was a leader on his high school football team, serving as co-captain.
College Football Days
Art played college football for four years at Texas Southern University. He played both defensive end and offensive lineman. In his last two seasons, he was chosen for the all-conference teams.
Playing Pro Football
Art Strahan started his professional football career in 1965. He played for the Houston Oilers in the American Football League.
After that, he joined the Orlando Panthers in the Continental Football League. He played with them in 1966 and 1967.
In 1968, Art's contract was sold to the Dallas Cowboys. Later that year, he played for the Atlanta Falcons. He also played for the Alabama Hawks in the Continental Football League.
Art returned to the Orlando Panthers for the 1969 season. In 1970, he signed with the Los Angeles Rams. He also played a couple of games for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League.
Family Life
Art Strahan married Delores Jean. They have two sons, Andre and Derrick, and one daughter.
He is the uncle of famous football player Michael Strahan. Michael Strahan also went to Texas Southern University and became a successful defensive end in the NFL, just like his uncle.
