A Look Back: Artas History
Artas was officially planned and mapped out in 1901. This happened when a new train line, part of the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad, was built into the area. The name "Artas" comes from a Greek word meaning "bread." This makes sense because the town is located in the "Wheat belt," an area famous for growing wheat. A post office was also set up in Artas in 1901.
