Lieutenant Arthur Stuart Draisey was a brave pilot during the First World War. He was known as a "flying ace" because he helped shoot down seven enemy airplanes!

Before he joined the air force, Arthur Draisey worked at the Euston Railway Station in London from 1915 to 1917. He joined the Royal Flying Corps (which was the British air force at the time) in August 1917.

A Flying Ace in the Sky

Arthur Draisey became an observer and gunner in a Bristol F.2 Fighter airplane. He was part of a special air unit called 20 Squadron in France. In the air, he teamed up with an experienced pilot named Frederick Harlock. Together, they were an amazing team and achieved all seven of their victories.

Their Victories

On July 1, 1918, Arthur Draisey and Frederick Harlock forced an enemy Fokker Dr.I triplane (a plane with three wings) to go down out of control. They then shot down six more enemy planes, all of them Fokker D.VIIs. These victories happened on:

  • August 13
  • September 20 (two planes)
  • September 25 (two planes)
  • September 27

After the War

Arthur Draisey left the air force on October 24, 1919. He received a special award called the Order of Saint Stanilas from Russia. This award suggests he might have helped British forces during a time of big changes in Russia in 1919.
