Arthur Vickers (born in 1947) is a famous Canadian artist and storyteller from the West Coast. He received a special award called the Order of British Columbia in 2008. This award was given to him because of his amazing work helping others and raising money for good causes.

Arthur Vickers' Amazing Art

Arthur Vickers is very well known for his unique artworks that often use gold leaf. This means he uses very thin sheets of real gold in his paintings and carvings! He is skilled in many different art forms, like drawing, carving, painting, and making prints.

You can visit Arthur Vickers' art gallery in a beautiful, old fishing village called Cowichan Bay. This village is located on the southern part of Vancouver Island in British Columbia.

The Special Leadership Desk

One of Arthur Vickers' special creations is called "The Leadership Desk." This desk is made by hand from red cedar wood. It is shaped like a traditional bentwood box and decorated with designs from First Nations art.

Arthur Vickers gave this desk to the Premier of British Columbia in October 2009. The desk is now kept permanently in the Premier's Office in British Columbia.

About Arthur Vickers' Life

Arthur Vickers was born in Vancouver. His mother had English and Canadian family roots. His father came from the Tsimshian and Heiltsuk First Nations.

He spent his childhood in a Tsimshian village called Kitkatla. There, he spent a lot of time with his grandfather. His grandfather was a fisherman and also carved canoes.

In 2006, Arthur Vickers received an honorary doctorate degree in fine arts from the University of Victoria. Later, in 2010, he also received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Camosun College.
