Arturo Rivera (born April 15, 1945 – died October 29, 2020) was an important Mexican painter. He was known for his unique and powerful artworks. Rivera lived and worked mostly in Mexico City.
His Early Life and Art School
Arturo Rivera was born in Mexico City in 1945. He loved art from a young age. He studied painting at the Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City from 1963 to 1968. Later, he also learned printmaking techniques in London from 1973 to 1974.
After his studies, Rivera lived in New York City for eight years. He worked many different jobs, like helping in kitchens or working in a paint factory. He did these jobs to earn money so he could keep painting.
In 1979, another artist named Max Zimmerman saw Rivera's paintings. He was very impressed! Zimmerman invited Rivera to Munich, Germany, to be an assistant teacher at an art academy. After a year of hard work and learning, Rivera returned to Mexico. In 1982, he had his first big solo art show at the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City.

Arturo Rivera's art became famous around the world. He took part in many group art shows in cities like New York, Paris, Tokyo, and London. His paintings were shown in many countries, including Puerto Rico, Cuba, Germany, and Poland.
He also had his own art shows in Chicago, New York City, and many places in Mexico. Some of the famous museums that showed his work include:

An art expert named Carlos Blas Galindo once said that some realities would not exist if Arturo Rivera had not painted them. This shows how powerful and real his art felt to people.
