Her Life Story

Aruna Lama was born on September 9, 1945, in a place called Ghoom Pahar, Darjeeling. At that time, Darjeeling was part of British India. Her parents, Surya Bahadur Lama and Sanmaya Lama, were Nepali.

Her uncle, C.B. Lama, noticed her talent and encouraged her to sing when she was just 7 years old. When she was 11, in 1956, she won a music competition. After that, her singing journey truly began!

A very important Nepali musician named Amber Gurung helped her improve her singing skills starting in 1958. Aruna Lama went to school in Mungpoo and Darjeeling. She later earned a college degree in arts from Darjeeling Government College.

In 1963, Aruna Lama married Saran Pradhan, who was also a musician. Later, she faced a difficult time when her husband passed away. She was left to raise her two children, Sapna and Supreet, by herself.

Even with these challenges, Aruna Lama worked very hard to support her family. She worked as a teacher and later at a government office in Darjeeling. She continued to sing and share her amazing voice with the world until the end of her life.
