Arundel-on-the-Bay (often called "AOTB") is a special community in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It used to be a small village and a popular vacation spot. It is about 2 miles southeast of Annapolis.
Arundel-on-the-Bay sits on a piece of land called the Annapolis Neck. It's like its own mini-peninsula! The Chesapeake Bay borders it to the east and south. Fishing Creek is on its western side.
A Special Place in History
Arundel-on-the-Bay was once a very important place. It was a vacation spot for many wealthy African American families. This was during a time when laws in some places kept people of different races apart. These laws meant that many other resorts did not allow non-white visitors.
AOTB became a safe and welcoming place for African Americans to relax and enjoy their holidays. Today, about 345 homes are in this community.
Community Life and Features
Arundel-on-the-Bay is a special tax district. This means that a part of the property taxes collected each year goes back to the community. This money helps pay for improvements and upkeep of the shoreline.
The community has many great features for its residents.

From the community beach, you can easily see the Thomas Point Lighthouse. It's just a short boat ride away!
Famous Residents
Over the years, some notable people have lived in Arundel-on-the-Bay.
- Aris T. Allen, Jr. is one of them. His father, Dr. Aris T. Allen, was the first African American to lead the Maryland Republican Party.
- Kurt Schmoke also lived here. He was the first African American mayor of Baltimore.
