Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Ash Grove is a small, unincorporated community located in Lincoln County, Kansas, United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town, but people still live there.

About Ash Grove

Ash Grove is a quiet area in Kansas. It's known for its history and the natural beauty around it.

Early Days

The story of Ash Grove began with a man named Napoleon Bonaparte Alley. He was a veteran of the American Civil War. He decided to settle in this area and built his home, which was a "dugout." A dugout is a type of shelter built into the side of a hill or a ditch.

Later, in 1916, Ash Grove even had its own post office! This was a big deal because it meant people could send and receive mail right in their community. The post office served the area for many years, but it eventually closed down in 1944.

Local Landmarks

Even though Ash Grove is a small community, there are interesting places nearby. About 3.3 miles southwest of where the old town of Ash Grove used to be, you can find the South Fork Spillman Creek Double Arch Bridge. This bridge is a unique structure that crosses over the creek.

Schools in the Area

For students living in and around Ash Grove, public education is provided by the Sylvan–Lucas USD 299 school district. This district serves the children from the community, helping them learn and grow.
