How Asheville Outlets Started

Asheville Outlets wasn't always called that! It first opened in 1989 as Biltmore Square Mall. Back then, its main stores were Hess's, Proffitt's, and Belk. These big stores are often called "anchor stores" because they attract many shoppers.

Changes Over the Years

In 2006, new owners bought the shopping center. They planned to make it even bigger! A cool new movie theater and restaurant concept called Cinebarre opened in 2007. At Cinebarre, you could enjoy food and drinks while watching a movie.

The Mall Closes and Reopens

Most of Biltmore Square Mall closed on January 31, 2014. Only a few stores like Dollar Tree stayed open for a little longer. Belk, one of the original anchor stores, closed at the end of 2014.

Then, the shopping center was completely redeveloped. It reopened on May 1, 2015, with a new name: Asheville Outlets! It became an outlet mall, which means stores sell products directly from the brand, often at lower prices.

What's New at Asheville Outlets

New England Development helped create the new Asheville Outlets. It became an open-air mall, which means you walk outside between stores. It has covered walkways to protect you from the weather. You can also see a cool fire and water fountain!

Some of the new main stores included Dillard's Clearance Center and Field & Stream. Other popular stores like Nike Factory Store, Under Armour, Coach, and Tommy Hilfiger also opened. Today, there are close to 70 stores for you to explore!
