Ashleigh Cummings is an Australian actress, born on November 11, 1992. She became well-known for playing Robyn Mathers in the movie Tomorrow, When the War Began. This film was based on a popular book. For her role, Ashleigh was nominated for Best Young Actor at the 2010 Australian Film Institute Awards.

Ashleigh has also starred in many other TV shows and movies. These include playing Dorothy Williams in Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and Debbie Vickers in Puberty Blues. She also played Vic McQueen in the series NOS4A2, Abby Conroy in Citadel, and Kacey Fitzpatrick in Long Bright River.

Early Life and Training

Ashleigh Cummings was born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Her parents, who are Australian, were living and working there at the time. When she was 12 years old, Ashleigh and her family moved to Australia.

Early Dance and Acting Training

From a very young age, starting at two years old, Ashleigh trained as a ballet dancer. When she was 14, she joined the Brent Street School of Performing Arts. Here, she continued to learn dance and also began to study acting.

School and Further Studies

Ashleigh attended Wenona School in North Sydney, where she finished her studies in 2010. She also went to a film and television school called Screenwise. Later, between her acting jobs, Ashleigh studied philosophy at university.

Ashleigh's Acting Journey

Ashleigh Cummings started her acting career as a dancer in the movie Razzle Dazzle: A Journey into Dance in 2007. After that, she played Ally Sheppard in a project called Green Fire Envy. She also appeared in a TV film called Dream Life and had a guest role in the soap opera Home and Away.

Becoming Robyn Mathers

In September 2009, it was announced that Ashleigh would be in the movie Tomorrow, When the War Began. This film was based on a book by John Marsden. To get ready for her role, Ashleigh learned how to ride dirt bikes and use certain types of rifles. She also took her school exams early and missed some of her final year of high school to film the movie. Her performance as Robyn Mathers earned her a nomination for Best Young Actor at the 2010 Australian Film Institute Awards.

After Tomorrow, When the War Began, Ashleigh performed in a play called Our Town in Sydney. In 2011, she appeared in episodes of Rescue Special Ops, Underbelly: Razor, and Dance Academy.

Playing Dorothy Williams

Ashleigh was then cast as Dorothy "Dot" Williams in the TV show Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. This drama series is based on books by Kerry Greenwood. Dorothy is a quiet and traditional person who becomes a helpful assistant to the main character, Phryne Fisher.

Starring in Puberty Blues

In March 2012, Ashleigh was chosen to play Debbie Vickers in the TV show Puberty Blues. She read the book before her audition and was surprised by some of the topics it covered. To prepare for her role as Debbie, Ashleigh took surfing lessons. Before filming the second season of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, she spent three weeks volunteering in South-East Asia. For her roles in Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and Puberty Blues, Ashleigh was nominated for Most Popular Actress at the Logie Awards.

More Film and TV Work

In 2014, Ashleigh sang on Dan Webb's first album, Sandstorm. She also starred as Billie in Rhys Graham's movie Galore. For this role, she was nominated for Best Performance by a Young Actor at the Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards.

Recent Projects

In 2015, Ashleigh appeared in the TV miniseries Gallipoli. She also starred in Pork Pie, a remake of an older film. In 2016, Ashleigh won the Heath Ledger Scholarship, which helped her study acting in Los Angeles. She also had a main role in the movie Hounds of Love. She played Cheryl Miller in Westside, a show that tells the story before Outrageous Fortune.

Ashleigh played Pippa in The Goldfinch, a movie based on the book of the same name. She also had the main role of Vic McQueen in the horror series NOS4A2.
