Ashley Gordon is a former professional Indigenous Australian rugby league player. He played in Australia during the 1980s and 1990s. Ashley was known for playing as a winger and fullback. He played for teams like the Newcastle Knights and Penrith Panthers in the National Rugby League (NRL). In 1990, Ashley was named the Dally M Winger of the Year. This award recognized him as the best winger in the league that year. Ashley is also the second cousin of Isaac Gordon, who played as a winger for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.
Early Life and Beginnings
Ashley Gordon was born in Brewarrina, New South Wales, Australia. He started playing junior rugby league in a town called Cardiff. Later, he moved on to play for the Souths Newcastle team.
His Rugby League Career
Ashley Gordon played for the Newcastle Knights for most of his career. He was a key player for them for several years. After his time with the Knights, he played for the Penrith Panthers for one year. Then, he returned to the Newcastle Knights for his final season before retiring.
