Ashley Nicole Black (born June 15, 1985) is a talented American comedian, actress, and writer. She is known for her funny work on TV shows like Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Ted Lasso, and A Black Lady Sketch Show. Ashley has even won an Primetime Emmy Award for her amazing writing!
Early Life and Education
Ashley Nicole Black was born in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in a nearby town called Walnut, California.
She went to the University of California, Santa Cruz, and finished in 2007. There, she studied theatre arts. Later, she went to Northwestern University to earn a master's degree in performance studies. Ashley was actually working on a PhD, but she decided to follow her dream of becoming a comedian instead!
Ashley's Comedy Career
Ashley's journey into comedy started at a famous place called the Second City. This is where many well-known comedians learn how to do improv comedy.
In 2016, Ashley became a writer and correspondent for the TV show Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. She worked on the show for three years. During this time, she was nominated for six Primetime Emmy Awards! She won an Emmy in 2017 for her excellent writing on a special TV show. Her last episode on Full Frontal was in February 2019.
Ashley then joined the cast and writing team for HBO's A Black Lady Sketch Show, which started in 2019. She also became a writer and producer for the second season of the popular show Ted Lasso. In 2021, she joined the writing team for The Amber Ruffin Show.
In December 2021, Ashley signed a special deal with Warner Bros. Television Studios. This means she will create and produce new TV shows and movies for different streaming services and TV channels.
Ashley also uses her voice talents! She took over as the voice of Ms. Jacobson in the 12th season of Bob's Burgers. In season 13, she also started voicing the character Harley.
