Ashridge Commons and Woods is a very special natural area. It covers about 640 hectares (that's like 1,580 football fields!). This important place is located across parts of Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire in England.

It's known as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). This means it's protected because of its amazing wildlife and natural features. Ashridge Commons and Woods is also part of the National Trust's Ashridge Estate. This estate sits within the beautiful Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

A Home for Wildlife

This area is mostly made up of natural plants and trees. You'll find large sections of woodlands, open grassy areas, and bushy scrubland. It's a perfect habitat for many different animals.

Amazing Birds

Ashridge Commons and Woods is a great place for birds. Many different kinds of birds come here to breed. Some of these birds are quite rare in the UK.

  • Firecrests: These tiny, colorful birds are known for their bright orange and yellow crests.
  • Redstarts: These birds have a striking orange-red tail that they often quiver.

Visiting Ashridge Commons and Woods

If you want to explore this wonderful natural space, the main entrance to the Ashridge Estate is on Moneybury Hill. This is near a village called Ringshall.
