Askew is located about 3 miles (5 km) south of a place called Sarah, right along Mississippi Highway 3. It's also home to a large natural area called the Askew Wildlife Management Area, which covers about 4,300 acres.
A Look Back at Askew
Askew has a history that goes back many years. This community was first known as Askews Bluff. It was located along the Canadian National Railway tracks.
Back in 1910, Askew was a busy little place. It had three general stores where people could buy everyday items. There were also two sawmills, which cut timber into lumber. In 1900, only about 20 people lived in Askew.
A post office served the community for a long time. It was called Askews Bluff from 1890 to 1895. Then, its name changed to Askew and it operated until 1986.
