Assheton Curzon, 1st Viscount Curzon (born February 2, 1730 – died March 21, 1820) was an important British politician. He was a member of the Tory party, which was one of the main political groups in Britain at the time. He held special titles like Lord Curzon before becoming a Viscount.

Early Life and Education
Assheton Curzon was born into a well-known family. His father was Sir Nathaniel Curzon, 4th Baronet. His mother was Mary Assheton. He had an older brother named Nathaniel Curzon, 1st Baron Scarsdale. Assheton went to Brasenose College, Oxford for his education.
Political Career Highlights
Curzon was a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called Clitheroe. This meant he was elected to represent the people of Clitheroe in the British Parliament. He served as an MP for many years, first from 1754 to 1777, and then again from 1792 to 1794.
In 1794, he was given a special title and became Baron Curzon. This meant he joined the House of Lords, which is the upper house of the British Parliament. Later, in 1802, he received an even higher honor and became Viscount Curzon. These titles were for life and could be passed down in his family.
Historic Homes
Assheton Curzon owned and built some impressive homes.
Hagley Hall
In 1752, he bought Hagley Hall in Staffordshire. He made many changes to the house and its gardens. He wanted to make it a grand country estate.
Penn House
In 1760, he built Penn House near Amersham in Buckinghamshire. This new house replaced an older building. It was a large country mansion made of red brick.
Assheton Curzon was buried in the church at Penn, Buckinghamshire. A famous sculptor named Francis Chantrey created a monument for his grave.
Family Life
Lord Curzon was married three times. His first wife was Esther Hanmer. After she passed away, he married Dorothy Grosvenor. When she also died, he married Anna Margaretta Meredith. He had six children from his first two marriages.
Lord Curzon lived to be 90 years old, passing away in March 1820. His oldest son, Penn Assheton Curzon, died before him. So, his grandson, Richard, inherited his title. Richard later became the first Earl Howe.
Another son, Robert Curzon, also became an MP for Clitheroe. Robert inherited Hagley Hall. Assheton Curzon's daughter, Charlotte Curzon, married into the Stratford Family. Their descendants later became the Dugdale Baronets.
