Aster Mamo is an important diplomat from Ethiopia. She currently serves as Ethiopia's ambassador to Canada. An ambassador is a country's main representative in another country. She started this role in January 2018.
Career
Aster Mamo has held many important roles in the Ethiopian government. She worked hard to serve her country.
Early Government Roles
From 2005 to 2014, Aster Mamo was Ethiopia's Minister for Youth and Sports. In this job, she helped guide programs for young people and sports activities across the country.
Later, from 2014 to 2015, she became the chief government whip. This role involves making sure that members of a political party vote together on important issues. She was also a key member of the Central Committee for the Oromo Peoples' Democratic Organization (OPDO). This is a political party in Ethiopia. She stayed in this committee until 2016.
High-Level Positions
On April 8, 2014, Aster Mamo took on two very important jobs. She was named the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister. This means she was a high-ranking official, like a second-in-command to the Prime Minister. She also became the Minister for the Civil Service. In this role, she was in charge of all the government workers and how they did their jobs. She took over these roles from Muktar Kedir.
In October 2016, her time as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Civil Service came to an end. She also stepped down from her position on the Central Committee of the OPDO.
Current Role
Since January 17, 2018, Aster Mamo has been serving as Ethiopia's ambassador to Canada. In this role, she works to strengthen the relationship between Ethiopia and Canada. She represents her country and its interests in Canada.
