Mulatu Teshome Wirtu (Oromo: Mulaatuu Tashoome Wirtuu; Amharic: ሙላቱ ተሾመ ውርቱ) was born in 1957. He is an Ethiopian politician. He served as the president of Ethiopia from 2013 to 2018.
Early Life and Education
Mulatu Teshome was born in Arjo, a town in Welega Province. He went to school in China. There, he earned a bachelor's degree in political economy. He also received a doctorate in international politics from Peking University. Later, he got a master's degree in Law and Diplomacy. This was from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in 1990. He also taught at universities in other countries.
Political Career

In the mid-1990s, Mulatu Teshome became a Deputy Minister. He worked in Economic Development and Cooperation. In 2001, he was chosen as the Minister of Agriculture.
From 2002 to 2005, he was the Speaker of the House of Federation. This is a part of Ethiopia's government. He also worked as Ethiopia's Ambassador. He represented his country in China, Japan, Turkey, and Azerbaijan.
Presidency
While he was the Ambassador to Turkey, Mulatu Teshome was chosen as President. This happened on October 7, 2013. The parliament voted for him, and everyone agreed. Girma Seifu, an opposition member of parliament, supported his election. Like the presidents before him, Girma Wolde-Giorgis and Negasso Gidada, Mulatu Teshome is from the Oromo people.
Mulatu Teshome has one son.
