Astraphobia facts for kids
Astraphobia is a strong fear of thunder and lightning. It's also known by other names like brontophobia or keraunophobia. This special kind of fear is called a specific phobia. Both people and animals can experience astraphobia.
People with astraphobia often feel very scared during a thunderstorm. This happens even when there's a very low chance of them being hurt. They might look for a safe place to hide. This could be under a bed, under blankets, or in a closet. Basements are also common hiding spots.
A big clue that someone has astraphobia is their interest in weather forecasts. They might watch the weather on television a lot. They also might check the internet for news about upcoming storms. They do this to try and prepare for or avoid the storm.
