Astrid Holm was a famous Danish actress. She was born Astrid Vilhelmine Rasmussen on March 29, 1893. She became well-known for her work in both plays and early silent films. She passed away on October 29, 1961.

Early Life and Stage Career

Astrid was born in a place called Sønder Bjerge Sogn, in Sorø Municipality, Denmark. Her dad, Hans Peter Rasmussen, owned a hotel.

She first trained to be a ballet dancer at the Royal Danish Ballet. But in 1910, she decided to become an actress instead. During World War I, she acted in plays at Det Ny Teater in Copenhagen.

In the early 1920s, a famous director named Johannes Poulsen asked her to join the Royal Danish Theatre. She performed there for four years. From 1927 to 1940, she acted in many different theaters across Denmark. Sometimes, she even lived abroad for a while. In the early 1940s, she performed at the Frederiksberg Theatre. Later, she also acted at the Allé-Scenen Theatre. After the mid-1940s, she mostly performed in radio theater.

Film Career Highlights

Astrid Holm started her movie career in 1917 with a film called Søstrene Morelli. The next year, she signed a contract with Nordisk Film. Her first movie for Nordisk was Folkets Ven in 1918. In this film, she acted alongside Gunnar Tolnæs.

She then made several popular movies with director Emanuel Gregers. One of her most famous roles was as Sister Edith. This was in the 1921 Swedish silent film Körkarlen, also known as The Phantom Carriage. This movie was based on a book by Nobel prize winner Selma Lagerlöf.

In 1925, Astrid Holm starred in the drama Du skal ære din hustru. She acted with Johannes Meyer in this film. It was directed by the famous Carl Theodor Dreyer.

Astrid Holm returned to movies in 1942 with Ta' briller på. She appeared in four more films during the 1940s. She then retired from acting due to health issues. Her last movie was Mani in 1947.

Personal Life

Astrid Holm was married to a ballet dancer named Holger Holm. Sadly, he passed away in 1916. In the 1950s, Astrid became more private because of her health. She died in 1961 when she was 68 years old.
