Asylum Township is a small community in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, United States. It's part of the wider Northeastern Pennsylvania region. In 2020, about 999 people lived here. The township is famous for a special place called French Azilum, which has a unique history.

Where is Asylum Township?
Asylum Township is located in the southeastern part of Bradford County. It sits along the southwest side of the Susquehanna River.
It shares borders with several other townships:
- To the southeast, it's next to Terry Township.
- To the south, you'll find Albany Township.
- Monroe Township is to the west.
- To the northwest is Towanda Township.
Across the Susquehanna River, you can find:
- Wysox Township to the north.
- Standing Stone Township to the northeast.
- Wyalusing Township to the east.
There's a bridge over the Susquehanna River at the northern end of Asylum Township. Here, Pennsylvania Route 187 connects the community of Macedonia with Wysox.
The U.S. Census Bureau says Asylum Township covers about 68.4 square kilometers (26.4 square miles). Most of this area is land, with about 2.8 square kilometers (1.09 square miles) being water.
A Look Back: Asylum's History
Asylum Township has an interesting past. In 1791, a big event called the Haitian Revolution happened far away. Because of this, many French aristocrats (important people from France) left Haiti. They found a new home in Asylum Township.
These French families stayed in the area for several years. They lived there until the early 1800s. At that time, Napoleon allowed them to return to France. This unique period is why the historic site of French Azilum is so important.

Famous People from Asylum
Asylum Township has been home to some notable individuals:
- John Laporte (1798–1862) was born in Asylum. He later became a congressman for Pennsylvania.
- Ada Matilda (Cole) Bittenbender was born in Asylum in 1848. She made history as the first woman allowed to practice law before the Supreme Court. She was also the third woman admitted to the bar in Nebraska. Ada was a strong supporter of women's rights.
