Athletic shoe facts for kids
Athletic shoes are special shoes made for sports and physical activities. They are different from dress shoes. Even though they were first made for sports, many people wear them every day because they are super comfy and usually have extra soft padding.
You might hear athletic shoes called different names depending on where you are. Some common names include trainers (in the UK), running shoes or runners (in Canada and Australia), and sneakers (in the US and Australia). People also call them sport shoes, gym shoes, tennis shoes, or even kicks!
These shoes are made from flexible materials. Their bottoms, called soles, are usually made from rubber. The top part can be made from leather or canvas. While they started as sports gear, today they are popular for everyday wear. Many students wear them to school because they are so versatile and comfortable. They are also very quiet, which is why they are sometimes called "sneakers"—you can "sneak" around in them! Athletic shoes are perfect for many different types of sports.
