The Atlético Reynosa Fútbol Club was a Mexican football team. It was based in the city of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The club started in 2012 as Reynosa Fútbol Club. Later, in 2017, it changed its name to Atlético Reynosa.

From 2012 to 2020, the team played in Serie A of the Liga Premier. In 2020, the team stopped playing because of money problems. They did not officially close down, but they stopped playing for good. In 2022, the team's playing rights were sold to another club, C.D.S. Tampico Madero. This meant Atlético Reynosa could not return to play.

History of Atlético Reynosa

The team began in 2012 and was first called Reynosa F.C.. The plan was for them to play in a higher league called Ascenso MX. But they ended up in the Liga Premier de Ascenso, which was the third level of Mexican football.

The club's very first game was a friendly match. It was played on August 14, 2012, against Dorados de Sinaloa. For their first few seasons, the team played at the Estadio Adolfo López Mateos. After that, they started building their own new stadium.

New Stadium Opens

On September 27, 2013, the team's new stadium opened. It was built inside the Unidad Deportiva Solidaridad sports complex. This gave the team a new home field.

Name and Color Changes

On June 19, 2017, new owners bought Reynosa F.C. They decided to change the team's name to Atlético Reynosa. The club's colors also changed. They used to be red, green, and white. After the change, they became blue and white.

Challenges and Hiatus

In 2020, Atlético Reynosa tried to join a new league called Liga de Expansión MX. This league was going to be the second-highest league in Mexican football. However, the team was not allowed to join. This was because of problems with their stadium.

Because they couldn't join the new league, the club had to stay in the Liga Premier de México. After this, the team faced money problems. They lost sponsors who would only support them if they got into the Liga de Expansión. Due to these difficulties, the team stopped playing indefinitely.
