History of the Club
How Atletico Piombino Started
The club was first created in 1921. Back then, it was known as U.S. Piombino Calcio. Calcio is the Italian word for football.
Playing in Higher Leagues
For three seasons, the team played in Serie B. This was a very important and higher-level league in Italian football. During this time, they even won games against famous teams. Some of these teams included A.S.Roma and Calcio Catania.
Changes Over the Years
In 1996, the original club stopped playing. However, it was soon started again under a new name: A.S. Piombino. Later, in 2004, the club changed its name once more. This is when it became Atletico Piombino, which is its current name. Even with the official name changes, many fans still simply call the team "il Piombino".
