Atrévete a Soñar (which means Dare to Dream in English) is a popular Mexican teen telenovela. A telenovela is like a long TV drama series. This show was made by Luis de Llano for Televisa. It's based on an Argentine telenovela called Patito Feo, which means Ugly Duckling.
The main stars include Danna Paola as Patito and Eleazar Gómez as Mateo. Violeta Isfel and Cynthia Klitbo play the bad guys, Antonella and Bianca. The show also features grown-up actors like René Strickler and Vanessa Guzmán.
Atrévete a Soñar first aired on March 8, 2009. It was special because it was the first telenovela in Mexico to start on a Sunday. It became a huge hit, especially with kids. The final episode aired on March 7, 2010, also a Sunday, after a year of success.
Story of Atrévete a Soñar
Ana works in the cafeteria at a high school called CAMP. She lives there too. Her daughter, Patito, starts studying at CAMP. Patito quickly makes new friends. But she also meets a group of girls who become her rivals.
Patito soon learns about unfairness and teasing at school. The popular girls, led by Antonella (Bianca's daughter), make fun of Patito. They call her an "ugly duckling" and play tricks on her. But Patito also meets Mateo, who becomes her crush.
Patito becomes the leader of "Las Populares" (The Populars). They are sensible girls who don't care about being fake or just looking good. Their rivals are "Las Divinas" (The Divines), who only care about power and how they look.
The rivalry gets serious when the school plans a musical contest. Both groups want to represent the school. They decide to have a competition to see who will sing. Las Divinas think they will easily win. But Patito, even though she's shy, helps Las Populares win the contest with Rodrigo's help. Throughout the school year, Las Populares and Las Divinas have many adventures and face challenges.
Six months later, Ana has a new baby. Patito gets a new look thanks to her grandmother. She finds herself in a love triangle because of Giovanni. He is new to the community and becomes a rival to Mateo. Giovanni also teams up with Antonella to try and get Patito out of the way.
Meanwhile, Rodrigo wants to spend more time with his family. Many surprises happen in the second part of the show. Patito celebrates her quinceañera, which is a special 15th birthday party. New friends and new loves arrive, along with more challenges.
At Patito's 15th birthday party, Antonella tries to ruin it. But Antonella's father talks to her. He warns her about the consequences of her actions. Antonella changes her mind and decides not to cause trouble.
Later, Mateo wants to sing a song for Patito. But Giovanni tries to steal Mateo's song. Antonella finds out about Giovanni's plan and tells Mateo. Mateo confronts Giovanni on stage. Mateo then sings the song with his band, K&B.
Patito and Mateo finally become a couple during a school performance. Antonella apologizes to Patito for everything bad she did. Patito tells her there's nothing to forgive and they become friends again. Antonella also gets back together with Johnny. The show ends by showing what the characters' futures are like. The very last scene is at Patito's 15th birthday party, where she sings "Mundo de Caramelo."
