Atsushi Nagai (永井 篤志, Nagai Atsushi, born December 23, 1974) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a Midfielder. His older brother, Hideki Nagai, was also a professional footballer.

Atsushi Nagai's Football Journey
Atsushi Nagai was born in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, on December 23, 1974. He started his professional football career in 1995. He joined a team called Fukuoka Blux. This team was part of the Japan Football League.
Early Career and Success
Nagai quickly became an important player for Fukuoka Blux. He played as an offensive midfielder. His team won the league championship in 1995. This win helped the club move up to the J1 League in 1996. The J1 League is Japan's top football division.
However, Nagai faced some challenges. He had an injury in 1996. This injury meant he played less often. In October 1998, he moved to Sanfrecce Hiroshima. But he did not get to play in any matches for this team.
Finding His Place in J2
After a short break from playing, Nagai joined J2 League club Montedio Yamagata in June 2000. The J2 League is the second division in Japan. Here, he found his rhythm again. He became a regular player as a defensive midfielder. He played many games for Montedio Yamagata over several years.
In 2007, Nagai moved to another J2 club, Vegalta Sendai. He played as a defensive midfielder alongside Naoki Chiba. His team, Vegalta Sendai, won the J2 championship in 2009. This victory meant they were promoted to the J1 League for the 2010 season.
Final Years and Retirement
In 2010, Nagai's playing time decreased in the J1 League. In 2011, he moved to FC Ryukyu. This club was in the Japan Football League. At FC Ryukyu, he had the chance to play with his brother, Hideki Nagai. Atsushi Nagai decided to retire from football at the end of the 2011 season.
