Atsushi Nagai (永井 篤志, Nagai Atsushi, born December 23, 1974) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a midfielder for several teams. His older brother, Hideki Nagai, was also a football player.

Atsushi Nagai's Football Journey
Atsushi Nagai was born in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, on December 23, 1974. He started his professional football career in 1995. He joined a team called Fukuoka Blux. This team was part of the Japan Football League at the time.
Early Career and Promotions
Atsushi quickly became a key player for Fukuoka Blux. He played as an attacking midfielder. His team won the league championship. Because of this win, they were promoted to the J1 League in 1996. The J1 League is the top football league in Japan.
However, after the promotion, Atsushi didn't play as much. In October 1998, he moved to another J1 League team, Sanfrecce Hiroshima. But he didn't get to play in any matches for them.
Playing for Montedio Yamagata
After a break from playing, Atsushi joined Montedio Yamagata in June 2000. This team was in the J2 League, which is the second-highest league in Japan. Here, he found his place as a defensive midfielder. He played many games for Montedio Yamagata over several years.
Time with Vegalta Sendai
In 2007, Atsushi moved to another J2 League team, Vegalta Sendai. He continued to play as a defensive midfielder. He often played alongside a teammate named Naoki Chiba. In 2009, his team, Vegalta Sendai, won the J2 League championship. This meant they were promoted to the J1 League for the 2010 season.
In 2010, Atsushi's playing time decreased. He then moved to FC Ryukyu in 2011. This team was in the Japan Football League. At FC Ryukyu, he had the chance to play with his brother, Hideki Nagai. Atsushi Nagai retired from football at the end of the 2011 season.
