Attica is a small, unincorporated community located in Marion County, Iowa, in the United States. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. You can find Attica about 6 miles (about 10 kilometers) south of a larger town called Knoxville, right along Iowa Highway 5.
A Look Back in Time
Attica has been a quiet place for many years. In 1940, a count showed that about 130 people lived there. Over time, like many small communities, its population has changed, but it remains a part of Marion County's history.
Local Landmarks
One of the most interesting spots near Attica is the Hammond Covered Bridge. This historic bridge is located south of the community, just off Highway G-76 on 170th. Covered bridges are special because they are old wooden bridges with roofs and sides, which were built to protect the wooden structure from bad weather. They are often seen as charming reminders of the past.
