Atwell, Missouri facts for kids
Atwell is a small, unincorporated community located in the southeastern part of Miller County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
History of Atwell
Atwell got its name from a person named John T. Atwell. He was the first owner of the land where the community was built.
For a short time, Atwell even had its own post office! It opened in 1894. However, it didn't stay open for very long. The post office closed its doors in 1910.
Where is Atwell?
Atwell is situated on a low ridge. This means it's on a slightly raised area of land. On one side, to the east, you'll find Atwell Creek. On the other side, to the west, is Little Tavern Creek.
If you want to visit Atwell, you can get there using Missouri Route K. This road connects to Missouri Route 17. The larger town of Iberia is about 5.5 miles away, located to the northwest of Atwell.
