Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Mystery of Audra

How Audra Began

Audra started around the year 1900. Three friends, C. Meno Hunt, Fred Robinson, and Frank Sheppard, built a general store there. A general store was like a small supermarket where people could buy many different things. The town was named "Audra" after Frank Sheppard's daughter.

A Town on the Move

By 1905, about 75 people lived in Audra. But soon, something big happened: a railroad was being built nearby! Railroads were very important for travel and trade back then. Instead of staying in Audra, the people decided to move. They packed up and started a new town called Bradshaw a little further east. This is why Audra became a ghost town.
