Augusto Algueró Dasca (born February 23, 1934 – died January 16, 2011) was a very talented Spanish composer, arranger, and music director. He wrote over 500 songs and created music for about 200 films and TV shows.

Augusto Algueró was born in Barcelona, Spain. He studied both music and medicine, showing he was smart in many ways!

Algueró wrote many popular songs that are still remembered today. Some of his most famous songs include:

Working with Eurovision

Augusto Algueró was a big part of the Eurovision Song Contest. This is a famous international music competition.

  • In 1961, he wrote Spain's very first song for Eurovision, called "Estando contigo," sung by Conchita Bautista.
  • In 1969, when Eurovision was held in Madrid, he was the music director. He also conducted two songs: "Catherine" for Luxembourg and "Vivo Cantando" for Spain.
  • "Vivo Cantando" tied for first place that year! This was Spain's second win and the first time a country won two years in a row.
  • He also conducted the Spanish entry "Gwendolyne" for Julio Iglesias in the 1970 contest.
  • In 1972, he wrote and conducted Spain's song "Amanece," sung by Jaime Morey.

His Work with the OTI Festival

Algueró was also the music director for the first ever OTI Festival in 1972, which was also held in Madrid. The OTI Festival was another big music competition for Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries.

  • He conducted many songs for different countries at this festival.
  • During a break in the show, he conducted an orchestra playing some of his own famous songs, like "Penélope" and "Te Quiero, Te Quiero."

Augusto Algueró passed away at his home in Torremolinos when he was 76 years old. He left behind a huge collection of music that people still enjoy.
