María del Carmen García Galisteo (born October 16, 1930 – died June 27, 2023), known as Carmen Sevilla, was a very famous Spanish actress, singer, and dancer. She started her career in the 1940s. She became one of the most popular and highest-paid stars in Spanish cinema until the 1970s.
Later, in 1991, when she was sixty years old, she began a new career. She became a television presenter. She worked for the three biggest Spanish TV channels until she retired in 2010.
As an actress, Carmen Sevilla played the main character in many films. Some of these include Imperial Violets (1952) and Vengeance (1958). Vengeance was even nominated for an Academy Award. She also appeared in big English-language movies like King of Kings (1961) and Antony and Cleopatra (1972).
She started her career in 1942 as a dancer. In the 1950s, she also became a well-known singer. She sang many songs in her movies. She released several music albums. Many of her songs were written by her husband at the time, Augusto Algueró. She sang different styles of music, like coplas, boleros, and tangos. She performed these songs on stage and on television.

Carmen Sevilla's Career Highlights

Carmen Sevilla got her first main role in a movie in 1948. It was called Jalisco Sings in Seville. She became very famous after starring in The Troublemaker (1950). After this, she was one of the most popular and highest-paid stars in Spanish movies. In 1952, she starred in Imperial Violets. She also played Mary Magdalene in the big English movie King of Kings (1961).
On January 3, 1965, she appeared on American television for the first time. This was on The Ed Sullivan Show. She sang two songs live: "Mis noches de Madrid" and "Estando contigo". Both songs were written by her husband at the time, Augusto Algueró.
In 1972, she played Octavia in the English movie Antony and Cleopatra. She also starred in other Spanish films like No es bueno que el hombre esté solo (1973) and Beatriz (1976).
In 1991, at age sixty, she started a new career as a TV presenter. She hosted different shows and special programs. She worked for the three main Spanish TV channels until she retired in 2010. Some of her famous TV shows include Telecupónclock bell strikes live from Puerta del Sol in Madrid on all three major networks.

Later Life and Passing
In 2012, it was announced that Carmen Sevilla had Alzheimer's disease. She had been diagnosed with it three years earlier. This illness affects memory and thinking. By 2015, it was reported that she no longer recognized her own home. She moved to a nursing home in Aravaca, Madrid, in 2015. In 2022, her son shared that her Alzheimer's was very advanced. She could no longer recognize him or remember her amazing career.
On June 26, 2023, Carmen Sevilla was taken to the hospital in Madrid. She was in serious condition. She passed away the next day, on June 27, 2023, at the age of 92. She died from problems related to her illness.

Carmen Sevilla received several important awards for her contributions:
- Gold Medal of Merit in Labour (2001)
- Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts (2003)
- Hija Predilecta of the Province of Seville (2007) – This means "Favorite Daughter" and is a special honor from her home province.
