Augusto Pedro de Sousa (born 5 November 1968), known as Augusto César or simply Augusto, is a Brazilian football coach and former player. He played as a left back or a midfielder.

Augusto César's Football Journey

Augusto César was born in Brasília, Brazil. He started his professional football career at 19 years old. He first played for Vasco da Gama in 1988. He also played for teams like Gama and Pires do Rio.

Playing for Goiás and Portuguesa

In 1992, Augusto César joined Goiás. He played there for several years. In 1997, he moved to Portuguesa. He was a key player for them.

Time with Corinthians and Botafogo

In 1999, Augusto César signed with Corinthians. He didn't play much there. He was loaned to Botafogo in 2000. After some issues, he returned to Corinthians. He also played for América Mineiro that year. He went back to Botafogo in 2001 but still played rarely.

Playing Abroad in Japan

In June 2001, Augusto César moved to Japan. He joined Kashima Antlers. He played there for two seasons. Then, he spent three seasons with Kawasaki Frontale. He returned to Brazil in 2006. He played for Brasiliense.

Finishing His Playing Career

Augusto César played for his old team Gama again in 2008. He also played for Paranoá and Brasília. He retired from playing football in 2009 when he was 40 years old.

Early Coaching Roles

After coaching Gama's under-20 team, he became the head coach for Botafogo-DF in 2011. He coached famous player Túlio Maravilha there. He left Botafogo in April 2011. In 2012, he coached Gama again, but only for a short time.

Coaching at Goiás

On 27 September 2012, Augusto César returned to Goiás. This time, he was the manager for their under-20 team. He also briefly managed the main team in 2015. He left Goiás in January 2016.

Returning to Goiás and Main Team Role

In September 2017, he came back to Goiás to coach their under-20 squad again. He was also an interim coach for the first team in 2018. On 17 November 2020, Augusto César was officially named the manager of Goiás's main team.
