Auld was once a small community in Riverside County, California. It was located about 1,470 feet (448 meters) above sea level. Today, you won't find Auld on a map because its original location is now covered by Lake Skinner.
What Was Auld?
Auld was a "former settlement," which means it was a place where people used to live and work. Over time, for different reasons, the community stopped being an active town or village. Auld was about 12.5 miles (20.1 km) east of Murrieta.
The Auld Post Office
One important part of the Auld community was its post office. The Auld post office was open for many years, from 1899 until 1921. Post offices were very important back then. They helped people send letters and packages, connecting communities that might have been far apart. The settlement was named Auld to honor its very first postmaster, George Auld. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office.
Auld Today: Under Lake Skinner
The land where Auld once stood is now underwater. It is covered by Lake Skinner. Lake Skinner is a large reservoir that holds water for people to use. Sometimes, when new reservoirs are built, they cover areas where old towns or farms used to be. This happened to Auld, making it a part of history that now lies beneath the lake's surface.
