Aurora Díaz-Plaja i Contestí (born August 7, 1913 – died December 8, 2003) was a talented writer and librarian from Catalonia, Spain. She was born in Barcelona. Aurora also worked as a critic, journalist, lecturer, and translator. She came from a family of writers; her brothers were Ferran Díaz-Plaja i Contestí and Guillem Díaz-Plaja i Contestí. Aurora wrote about how to manage libraries and created many stories for young children. She wrote in both Catalan and Spanish.

About Her Life

Aurora Díaz-Plaja earned her library degree in 1933. She started her career working in Palma de Mallorca. During the Spanish Civil War, she helped send books to hospitals and soldiers. This showed her dedication to making books available to everyone.

After the war, she continued her work as a librarian and archivist. She was in charge of libraries across Catalonia. From 1963 to 1973, she directed the Ciutadella Park Children's Library in Barcelona. This was a special place for young readers.

Aurora was also a very active writer. She wrote about libraries, education, and the history of literature. Her articles appeared in well-known newspapers and magazines like El Ciervo, Avui, Serra d'Or, and El Món.

In 1955, she won the National Award for the Best Children's Book. This was a big achievement! In 1982, she organized the first exhibition of Catalan children's books. This special event took place at the International Youth Library in Munich.

She received the Creu de Sant Jordi award in 1998. This is one of the highest honors in Catalonia. In the same year, she donated her amazing collection of over 1,500 children's books to the Universitat Catalana d'Estiu. She was also an honorary member of the Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana. This group even created a literary prize named after her in 2000. Aurora Díaz-Plaja passed away in Barcelona in 2003.
