Where is Austerlitz?
Austerlitz is found along Kentucky Route 57. It is about nine miles south of Paris, Kentucky. It is also about 17 miles east of Lexington.
Railroad History
This community was once home to a train station. This station was part of the Kentucky Central Railroad. Later, this railroad became part of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. The train line connected Paris and Winchester. Trains were very important for travel and trade back then.
Why the Name Austerlitz?
The name Austerlitz likely comes from the famous Battle of Austerlitz. This was a major battle fought in 1805. It was a big victory for the French army. Many places in the United States were named after famous battles or people.
