The Show's Stages Over Time
Austin City Limits has had several different stage designs over the years. Each new set brought a fresh look to the show!
Early Stage Designs
- The very first stage, used for the first two seasons, was simple. It had colorful mats on the floor and a small stage where the musicians played. The audience sat on seats around it.
- In 1978, for season 3, the show got a brand new stage. It had a completely new and updated look.
- For season 4 in 1979, colored lights were added to the stage. This made the performances look even more exciting!
- In 1980 and 1981 (seasons 5 and 6), fences were added to the stage design.
The Iconic Austin Skyline Set
- From season 7 all the way to season 36, the show used its most famous set. This stage featured a large backdrop showing the beautiful Austin skyline. Instead of mats, there were chairs and tables for the audience, giving it a more relaxed, club-like feel.
- The current stage, used from season 37 onwards, has an updated Austin skyline backdrop. This change happened when the show, led by producer Terry Lickona, moved to a new home called the Moody Theater.
