The Silver Kangaroo is a special silver coin from Australia. It is made by the Perth Mint. This coin is mostly for people who want to invest in silver. It's like buying a small piece of silver to keep as an asset.
There's also another type of Australian silver kangaroo coin. This one is made by the Royal Australian Mint (RAM). People collect these RAM coins for their numismatic value. This means they are valued by coin collectors, sometimes because they are rare or have a special design.

Coin Design
The Silver Kangaroo coin always shows Queen Elizabeth II on its front side. This front side is called the obverse. The back side, or reverse, features a red kangaroo jumping. This kangaroo design stays the same every year.
Comparing with Other Coins
The Silver Kangaroo is different from other Australian silver coins. For example, the Australian Silver Koala and Australian Silver Kookaburra coins change their animal pictures every year. But the kangaroo on the Silver Kangaroo coin always looks the same.
The RAM silver kangaroo coin is a bit different. Its obverse image, showing the Queen, does change each year.
How Many Are Made?
The Perth Mint makes an unlimited number of Silver Kangaroo coins each year. This is different from the koala and kookaburra coins. Those coins have a limit on how many can be made. For example, only 300,000 koala coins and 500,000 kookaburra coins are made each year.
So far, there haven't been any special editions or unique marks (called privy marks) on the main one-ounce Silver Kangaroo investment coin.
Special Editions
Even though the main investment coin doesn't have special editions, you can find other versions. These include proof coins, which are made with extra care for collectors. There are also colored and gilded (gold-plated) versions available.
Mintage Figures
The table below shows how many Silver Kangaroo coins were made each year. "Mintage" means the total number of coins produced.
