Austrofusus glans is a type of medium-sized sea snail. It is also known as a whelk. This amazing creature is a marine (ocean-dwelling) mollusc and belongs to the family called Buccinidae, which are known as the true whelks.

Austrofusus glans is a medium-sized whelk. It lives in the ocean, usually in shallow areas close to the coast. But it can also be found in deeper waters, sometimes as far down as 600 meters! These snails like to live on sandy or soft ground at the bottom of the sea.

This special sea snail is only found in one place in the world: New Zealand. This means it is endemic to New Zealand, which means it naturally lives nowhere else.
