The Avery Clark House is a very old and important home in Southington, Connecticut. It is located at 1460 Meriden Avenue. This house was built around 1792. That makes it one of the oldest houses still standing in Southington! It shows us what homes looked like a long time ago. In 1989, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's a special building worth protecting.

About the Avery Clark House

The Avery Clark House is on the west side of Meriden Avenue. This is a busy street in Southington. The house is a single-story building made of wood. It sits close to the road.

What the House Looks Like

The house has a roof that slopes down on two sides. This is called a gabled roof. It is steeper than most roofs from that time. There is a chimney right in the middle of the house. The roof also sticks out a little bit on all sides.

The front of the house has five sections, called bays. The main door is in the middle. There is also a smaller part of the house that sticks out to the north. This part has four bays. It also has its own chimney. There is another door on the far right side of this smaller section.

Inside the House

Inside the Avery Clark House, you can still see some original features. For example, there are three fireplaces that are very old. They were part of the house when it was first built.

History of the House

The Avery Clark House was built around 1792. It was built for Avery Clark and his wife, Anna Walkley Clark. They moved to Southington from a town called Durham.

The Clark family owned this house for a very long time. Five different generations of their family lived there! Over the years, some parts of the house were updated. For example, new windows and doors were added in the 1900s. It is also thought that the chimneys might not be the original ones.
